WEEKEND THINGS

Is it just me, or is there never enough weekend time? As soon as I reach Friday afternoon I feel like I'm back to Sunday night mentally preparing for another work week. If only every weekend were a three day weekend! 

This past weekend Dan and I took a little extra time off work to do some traveling to visit friends and family. As we were packing up Friday afternoon, these pictures happened. I went against everything I always said I would do with a big dog and allowed our Piper up on our bed. Last week we started to notice a slight limp on one of her front legs and I just couldn't say no to letting her be in the most comfy place possible. Dan convinced me it was "doggy bed rest". I have a feeling she will be wanting up there much more often now. :-) 

Anyways, I just couldn't help but get out my camera and start snapping away at the adorableness. Plus, give you all a sneak peek at our new bedroom! We had such a fun, refreshing weekend spent with people we love. Hope everyone of you had an amazing weekend as well!

We are currently in the process of shopping for wall art for the two rooms we have been working on the past few months - our living room and bedroom. Repainting an entire house (including word work) has been a seemingly overwhelming task but we are taking it slow...a room at a time! I am happy to say that we are close to finishing two rooms in our home and I couldn't be happier about it. Adding the finishing touches to any room is always my favorite part. It's at this time when you finally start seeing all the pieces come together to create the room you imagined and planned for. If you follow me on Pinterest, you're probably tired of me clogging up your feed with all types of art. But, here are a few of my favorite pieces I've found so far! Enjoy!

BREAKING ALL THE RULES

After almost a month away from blogging, many long days of house painting, and the start of another school year, I am finally back at it! Life has been what you may call "a little crazy" for this girl, her hubby, and new pup. We're doing our best to balance life in a new exciting chapter. 

Having said all of that...who's ready for fall? I know I am! In a way I feel like we skipped over summer this year. I can count the number of times I went to the pool this summer on one hand. And. That. Is. Not. Okay. Although I always miss the warmer weather, I cannot help but get caught up in all the fall fashion - it's my absolute favorite! I have never been one to follow the "no white after Labor Day" rule. A white boho dress paired with nude ankle booties is the perfect way to carry whites into fall! 

You may remember Elementary Style's first post, Inspired by Jilly, where I shared my love for Jillian Harris. When she came out with her own clothing line for Privilege Clothing Boutique I knew I would fall in love with her pieces. The Peggy Dress is fun, flirty, and can be worn many different ways. This sunflower field is a Dayton staple in the early fall. It's a perfect place for shooting pictures and I just couldn't pass it up!

CALIFORNIA: PART 3

Better late than never, right? I have been majorly slacking on Part 3 of our trip, but I promised a Part 3 so here it is! I absolutely loved our time in San Francisco. It is such a fun city with so much to do! Since it was my first visit to the city we did a lot of “touristy” things but I kind of felt like we had to. Who knows when we will be back? We also tried some local, non-touristy things as well. Here is a short glimpse of our time in the Bay Area.

Day 1: We started the day with a delicious breakfast at Jane on Fillmore. Then we did some shopping along Union Street. After visiting Crookedest Street (which was only a block from where we were staying) and jumping on the Cable Car Line illegally (we may or may not have hopped on mid-route and not paid), we spent the afternoon at Ghirardelli Square and The Fisherman’s Wharf. The day ended with a delicious dinner at Mamacita which I would HIGHLY recommend if you plan on visiting the city. Especially for those Mexican food lovers!

Day 2: We took a morning walk to Coit Tower which wasn't too far from our place. Our morning walk quickly turned into an all day walking affair…over 50 blocks to be exact! Well worth it though for all the beautiful things we saw along the way. We visited the Ferry Building Marketplace and had some delicious treats including coffee and macaroons from Miette Bakery (cutest bakery ever)! In the afternoon we walked around The Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio and Battery Park. That evening we lived like the locals and dined with Off the Grid food trucks at Twilight in the Presidio – a fun event full of food trucks, tents, bonfires and music.

Day 3: Coffee at Elite Audio Coffee Bar where they do the best coffee art of all time (including Elephants), shopping at Union Square, lunch at Bar Jules in Hayes Valley followed by a neighborhood walk and ice cream at Smitten Ice Cream. In the evening we met up with a college friend for dinner and a Reds/Giants game at AT&T Park.

Day 4: Our final day in the city. I always get sad when vacation ends. We had a delicious brunch at Park Tavern, visited Golden Gate Park, walked along Crissy Field for an excellent view of the Golden Gate Bridge on a beautiful clear day! In the afternoon we visited Alamo Square and “The Painted Ladies” before heading to Nopa for our final dinner. From there it was nothing but an Uber ride to the airport and red eye flight home.

MODERN DAY WALLPAPER

I have a love/hate relationship with wallpaper right now. Love because not only is it coming back, but in absolutely beautiful prints! Hate because I totally dislike removing it, making it hard for me ever think of installing it. If I had to choose between paint and wallpaper, paint would win 99% of the time. However, there have been a few wallpapered interiors that have caught my eye on Pinterest lately. We are currently in the middle of one of our first house projects...removing wallpaper. Four of the rooms in our home came with horrendous wallpaper in them which has me dreaming of prettier, more contemporary wallpaper. I've rounded up a few of my favorite designs for a more contemporary look. If only we had been blessed with walls like these instead of the plaid and Asian printed ones we are removing, life might have been a little bit easier. :-)

ANNIVERSARY ROMPER

Well, I just got done sharing my favorite part of our trip to California...Sonoma! As I mentioned, Dan and I celebrated our two year wedding anniversary in Sonoma at the Kenwood Inn & Spa. After a much needed day at the spa and pool we freshened up for a romantic dinner at the Inn's restaurant. I absolutely love how easy rompers, playsuits, jumpsuits (whatever you want to call them) are. You put them on and wa-la - you have an instant outfit. All that's needed is some killer heels, wedges or sandals and a few accessories and you are good to go! I have been loving "backless" items this summer for some reason. It's something different I have never tried before and I love how it adds a little something extra to the outfit. To me style is all about experimenting with new things and stepping outside of your comfort zone every once in awhile. This piece was perfect for celebrating with my love of two years plus (and many more).
